Preparing Your Quilt

- Press all seams flat.
- Remove loose threads on both the front and back of the quilt. We will do our best to catch any strays.
- Backing and batting need to at least but NO MORE than 2-3" bigger than quilt top on all 4 sides. Please do not baste together.
- If backing needs to be pieced, sew together with a 1/2" seam and press open. Remove all the selvages and squaure up.
- Make sure the backing is square.
- Make sure that your backing and batting are squared-up (even) on ALL sides.
- Please press your quilt top and backing properly.
- If you bring your own batting, please cut to same size as backing. Please open batting at home to allow the creases to "relax"—especially if it's been sitting around for some time.
Basting: For hand quilters and/or home machine quilters, the basting is done in rows and columns for the entire length and width of the quilt in 3 to 4 inch blocks. Large stitches make it easy to remove once your hand stitching is completed.
Selvage: The lengthwise finished edge of a piece of fabric that is usually tightly woven. The selvage shrinks at a different rate than the rest of the fabric, and is hard to needle. As a result, it is usually cut off before measuring and sewing fabric pieces together.
How To Relax your Batting
Tumble in dryer with NO HEAT and several damp cloths for approximately 20 minutes. Let air-dry flat.
NOTE: A $10 fee will be assessed if Q&SF has to press, square-up, or trim your quilt top or backing.
